Wednesday REwind - 06/13

As usual last night was an awesome night with Thrive.

Because of Summer students are getting here earlier.  I love to see them hangout and see the community God is building.

Its funny to watch teenagers line up for popsicles like little kids.

We launched our Summer Series last night.  We will be view video teaching from LifeChurch.tv and then breaking into small groups for discussion.

Last night started ThriveXL.  Pizza and ultimate twister was a huge hit.

Love the competitive nature of our students.

The Food Fight Friday is going to be awesome.  I can not wait!

Camp countdown in on!  4 days!

Food Fight
This Friday Thrive will be having its first annual FOOD FIGHT!  We will meet at the church at 3:30pm and head to a farm in Conyers (Sally Meyer's Brother-in-Law's) at 4pm.  Students need to wear clothes that can be thrown away if necessary and also clothes to change into after the mess is made.  We will also be grilling out and setting up an outdoor theater to watch a movie at dusk.  We will return to the church at 11pm.  Cost is $10 and covers everything.  If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Eric.

The Most Important Person In Thrive
You, as a parent are the most important person in Thrive.  You have more influence in your Student's Spiritual life then anyone else.  We wanted to design this email to increase and improve communication to you, to keep you up to date with what is going on in Thrive.  Also, from time to time we will share resources to help better partner with you in raising your teenager.  Know that we are always a phone call away if you ever need anything.  We are here to serve.

Summer Series

This Summer, Thrive will be in a series called "Soul Detox" and will be diving into the thought of clean living in a contaminated world.  We will be discussing things like influcence, toxic thoughts, fears, the words we use, and much more.  If you would like a copy of our study guides or would like to sit in on a service, please contact Pastor Eric.

ThriveXL - June 13
Thrive goes all out for the Summer!  This Wednesday we will have free popsicles starting at 6:30pm in the cafe.  Then, Thrive Youth Church will start at 7pm.  This Summer, we will be breaking into our Small Groups after a brief video teaching for discussion and prayer.  Once service is over, we will hangout, eat pizza, and play twister like never before (Thrive's version of twister is safe and appropriate for all ages).  The night will end around 9:30pm and your students can be picked up from the church.  There is no cost.

Secrets To Raising Teenagers

Pick Your battles

Teens are supposed to push the envelope. Let them, but give them well-defined rules and consequences, and don't worry so much about who seems to be winning the argument. Practice self-awareness and speak logically. Less is more! When you disagree, spend more time listening before delivering the final blow. ("No, you can't publish my personal email for profit!" "No, you can't sell the living room furniture on eBay.")

Respect Their Privacy

It tugs at your heartstrings when they don't spill everything right away, but give them their space.  Let them know you are available when they need you, not when you need them. The most precious and productive moments are when they confide in you on their terms, not yours. Take advantage when they issue last minute requests for transportation shortly after you've sat down to vegetate in front of the tube after running errands all day. ("All my friends are going to the movies. Can I please go, too?") Use car time to share something important. Chances are they will share stories with you because they feel they owe you a favor. Of course, they will never admit it.
