Wednesday Rewind 07/25

Wednesdays are my favorite days of the week!

Loved having the Juniors of The Woodland Wolfpack serving last night in our Food Bank.  Love the heart of this team and I count it an honor to be a part of it.

Great crowd for Summer.  A lot of excitement right now with our students and leaders.


Loved having Worship again.  Been in a small group format for the Summer.  Felt good to crank things back up last night.

Week 1 of The Hunger Games was awesome.  Really felt like God gave me a word for the students in the house.  I will be posting notes later today from the Message.

We had our "reaping" to divide up in Districts right after service.  A lot of smack talk happening right now between the teams.

Each District is working to earn credits to use at our All-Nighter on August 10th.  They can earn credits by writing a devo, bringing friends, memorizing Scripture, bringing their Bible, taking notes, and more.

Had a blast at Yo Tops Yogurt and Ice Cream last night after service.  Appreciate them staying open later for us.  It was fun to hang out and laugh.

A lot happening over the next couple of weeks.  Looking forward to some real big things!

Parent Email July 23

Yo Tops Thrive will be heading to Yo Tops Yogurt on Jonesboro Rd after Youth Service this Wednesday night.  We will be back at the church at 9:30pm.  The students will need to sign up before service.  This is a self-serve Yogurt Shop and it is sold for $.45 per ounce.  The students will need no more than $5 per person.  If you have any questions please see Pastor Eric. Just A Thought Can your teenager talk to you?  Not just about the weather, movies, music, or current events.  Can they talk to you about tough things they are facing without you freaking out?  Can they ask you tough questions without you overracting?  Have you made it easy for your teenager to sit down with you and any topic be discussed?  A lot of times students just want someone to talk to.  Someone who they can share the tough moments of their life with.  Someone who they can trust to not freak out or make a bigger deal out of it than it is.  As parents, we have to build safe enviroments that our kids can talk to us about anything.  They need to know they have someone in their life they can trust, that will be able to handle anything that is thrown at them.  If it is not you, they will find it somewhere.  Be that for your teenager. Hunger Games Thrive will launch their Hunger Games series this Wednesday night.  During this series, we will use the theme from the book/movie and apply biblical insight to give students real life application.  We will talk about topics like pain, mindsets, loving others, and more.  Students will be challenged to bring friends, memorize scripture, write devotions, and a lot more.  It will be a fun series with a lot of different twists.  We will end the series with an All-Nighter on August 10th at the Church. Helen Tubing Trip Thrive is heading to Helen, GA this Friday to go tubing and hang out at The Helen Water Park.  We will be leaving the church at 8 am and returning at 9 pm.  Cost for the trip is $25.  Students have to wear shirts and shorts to float down the river and can wear bathing suits (no speedos or bikinis) in the Water Park.  All meals will be picnic meals.  Students must sign up this Wednesday night to go. Hunger Games Series

Thrive's Hunger Games Series launches Wednesday night July 25th.  This is going to be an awesome series that is going to be challenging and fun.  We will tackle topics like forgiveness, mindsets, seeing people in their pain, looking past the exterior, and more.  Each week I will post a copy of my notes on this site.  It will also be a great series for the students to invite a friend.  The Hunger Games will run every Wednesday through August 8th, ending with an All-Nighter on August 10th.

Every Wednesday night during the series we will be having something special before and after services as well.  Here is what is going on:

July 25th - Yo Toppers Yogurt after Service


August 1st - End of Summer Bash / Summer Photo Booth & Taco Bell


August 8th - Thrive's Largest Sundae

Wednesday REwind 07/18

Last night did not go as planned.  We were suppose to do our Water Wars but the weather did not cooperate with us.

So grateful for Bobby, Devin, and Michael for filling up over 1,000 water balloons that could not be used and not whining about it.

We played the infamous "do you love your neighbor" game.  It is alway intense and always fun.  It is a good group bonding game with a lot of laughs and memories.

You know it is a good night when more and more students join in on the game as the night goes on instead of backing off and talking with their friends.

The end of the night was spend with a challenge that though Summer is not over, it is time to go back to work.

Got a lot of cool things planned over the next few weeks.

I believe Thrive is about to step into a new season.  A season of growth, both spiritually and numerically.

Thrive students are truly some of the most awesome anywhere in the world.

Hunger Games Thrive will be launching a new series starting July 25th.  We will be using the books and movie "Hunger Games" as our theme.  This will be a three week series that ends with an all night event on August 10th.  During this series, we will discuss topics like sacrifice, relationships, influence, and much more.  The series is geared to get your students to invite friends and engage them on their level.  If you have any questions, about the series or would like a copy of notes please feel free to call. Tubing Trip Thrive is going to be hanging out in Helen, GA July 27th to go to the Helen Water Park and tube down the Chattahoochee River.  Cost for the trip is $25 and it will cover gas, tubing, water park, and two meals.  We will leave the church at 8 am on that Friday and return at 9pm that evening. Your student must sign up to go. Have Fun When is the last time you had fun with your teenager?  Not what you or I would consider fun, but fun for them.  When is the last time you laughed with them?  Sometimes we can get so caught up in life that we forget to have fun and make memories.  Go to the movies, take them to a ball game, take them out to eat, hang out with them doing something they want.  You would be surprised at what doors it will open and the trust that will be built.  You might be shocked at the conversations that take place.  Your teenagers want to have fun with you. Water War Wednesday night, July 18th, is a night the students won't want to miss.   We will have a slip n slide, water games, cook out, and a lot more.  Students need to bring a towel, clothes they can get soaked in like a t shirt and shorts (no  bathing suits please) and get ready to have a blast.  Fun starts at 7pm and we will be done at 8:45pm.  If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call. Real Life: Final Thoughts

This was one of the best state-side missions trips that I have ever been a part of.

The team worked so hard on so many projects.  The badge of honor for the week was to see who could get their shirts the dirtiest.

Being at Real Life Children's Ranch was a divine appointment.  We really believe that we will have a relationship with them for many years to come.

Connecting with the kids at the ranch was the highlight of the trip.  What God is stirring in us and preparing Thrive for is awesome.  The Gospel is shared not only through words but action as well.

Memories that were made of this trip will last a lifetime.  We went down to minister to kids and got ministered to ourselves in return.

We saw last week that everyone, no matter who you are, has the potential to bring hope.

We have to love the people in our world on a daily basis like we loved last week.  If we can do that, we can change our world.

Real Devotion: Real Courage

Courage is not the absence of fear, it is just not being controlled by fear.  This week you have shown the love of God to people all around you, as you go home the call is the same.  A lot of times it is easier to live fully for God on a trip like this rather than back home in our every day world.  There is not the pressure to fit in, or be accepted.  It is going to take a Holy courage to continue to live it out.  To continue to pray, to be a servant, to show compassion, to be obedient, and to live love, but it can be done.  What are you going to take home with you from this week?  Will you go back to the way that life was before you left, or will you have the courage to be different, to be changed.  It has been said that the brave will not live forever but cautious do not live at all.
