Hunger Games wk 2 #teamsally

From Sean Saintill

Luke 10:27- And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

The Bible tells us in Exodus 20 that our God is God. There should be nothing before him. The Lord himself said, " Thou shalt have no other gods before me." When we usually read verse 3 of Exodus 20, we tend to overlook the meaning of that verse. When God said that, he did not just mean false gods such as Baal, Zeus, or mecca, he meant things that we have in our lives that we begin to place in front of God. Such as, when we decide to eat first rather then pray over the food that God brought to the table. When we decide to memorize every song on a music album, rather then take the time to even learn a Bible memory verse. Also even when choose to spend hours watching reality shows, and decide that the actual reality time between you and God is worth 10 minutes worth of prayer.I know i'm guilty of a lot of what I'm saying, otherwise It wouldn't be able to give such great examples.

The numerous of times God showed us undeserved favor should push us to thank and praise him. He created us, he offered a relationship with him personally, and he decided not to kill us all of during the great flood. We were made for his reason and to please him. If we claim to be children of God, our focus should not be on ourselves.
Some of us claim, "Oh Lord I live for you, and only you." In that case, a true servant of God would worship God till death, even if he was somehow condemned. That is how strong our love for God should be. We should Love him with all of our hearts, even if salvation wasn't an option. That is what loving God with all of your soul, mind, and strength is about.
Though I can't say that I live how I preach, I believe that God will give me strength to live the life that he wants me to live.

From Lela Gray

Psalm 33:13-22
But the Lord watches over those who fear him, those who rely on his unfailing love. He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times of famine. We depend in the Lord alone to save us. Only he can help us, protecting is like a shield.

God is our help and our shield. He has given us commands that are meant to protect us. He intends for his commands to be like protective goggles or an oven mitt; they're supposed to protect us--- but we have to use them.
God cannot be our help and our shield if we do not obey. His commands can't protect us and enrich our lives if we don't follow them. If we ignore or disobey God's loving commands, they're just like a bulletproof vest that's left hanging in a policeman's locker or safety goggles that left in the bottom of a gym bag. But if we obey God and do what he commands, he will protect us and save us from many troubles.

Wednesday REwind 08/01

Wednesday night was week 2 of The Hunger Games.  Loving this series and breaking down Matthew 5.

Had the largest crowd of the Summer.  Can not wait for school to start back and watch the momentum continue to build.

The Summer Photo Booth was fun.  The students had a blast taking pictures and goofing off with it.

Ran into a snag with Taco Bell last night but once the tacos got there everyone enjoyed them.

Felt a stirring during the altar call last night.  Really believe there is about to be a spiritual shift in our ministry.

Already have two devos to post this week from students.  Love that!

During the Hunger Games the students are earning credit for their Districts by bringing their Bibles and memorizing Scripture.  Praying this becomes a habit in their lives.

Will have the notes up from week 1 and week 2 of this series soon.

Hunger Games Wk 1 #TeamChris

From Tasha Lopez

" Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; for the lord your god will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

Most times you will see older people who have made some bad choices in the past come to God and feel so new and be a better example to there kids and family members and friends but for young kids it's a little different. Where I'm from being a Christian in high school was vert rare and being able to admit to being a high school Christian didn't exist. God doesn't deny us with all of our mistakes and baggage we come with so why do we deny him ? Just because we're in a different environment like school or something other then church does not mean God is no longer watching us so no matter what stand up for what you believe and love because God gave us a purpose. As a young teenage Christian I understand how hard it is to be the only Christian in school but I won't be scared because my god is an awesome god who will love me no matter what so I'm not going to deny him for anyone else why should you ?

God thank you for all that you've done thank you for sacrificing your son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. Thank you or walking every step not only with us but ahead of us for us to follow you.amen

End Of Summer Bash
This Wednesday night we will have our End of Summer Bash where we will celebrate all of our memories from our awesome Summer.  There will be a Summer Photo Booth set up before and after service where students can have pictures taken with their friends.  Also, after service we will have free Taco Bell tacos.  In addition to all of that, it is the second week of our Hunger Games Series and The Districts are working on earning credits for our All-Nighter.

All-Nighter
Friday night, August 10th, Thrive will host a lock-in event centered around our Hunger Games theme.  Registration opens at 7:30pm and the event begins at 8:00pm.  Thrive has been split up into four "Districts" and they will be competeing all night to see which District will come out victorous.  The event will conclude at 8:00am on Saturday August 11th.  Cost for the event is $10 and will cover all their food and supplies for the night.  If you have any questions or you would like to help with the event, contact Pastor Eric.

Praying With Your Student(s)
No one prays for your student more than you do.  There is no way that you can calculate the hours spent asking God for wisdom to raise them right or asking for protection when they are not with you.  I believe God honors the prayers of parents but there has to be more.  You need to not only pray for your student but pray with them as well.  Take a moment and pray together as a family, it may be awkward and uncomfortable but I believe it will have an eternal impact on your student.  A powerful thing happens when your students hear your prayers for them.  Who else better is there to teach them to pray but you.
